April 2014 Contest: Shakespeare by Asatira
:iconclub-tutu: April 2014 Contest

It is well acknowledged that the works of William Shakespeare are some of the most well known pieces of literature around the world. His plays have been revived, performed, and adapted over the centuries, including in ballet. A number of ballets have been based on his plays, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet. And that’s not touching on Shakespeare’s sonnets.

Your challenge is to take inspiration from the work of the bard and mix it with Princess Tutu, including directly from the source and from the adaptations of the work. This means you can take a scene directly from the play Romeo and Juliet or you may draw inspiration from Prokofiev’s ballet rendition. You may want to have fun with the humor and playfulness of the A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the magic of The Tempest, the drama and tension of Othello, or dabble in the imagery of the sonnets.

Deadline: April 27, 2014, 11 p.m. PST (-8 GMT)

Things to keep in mind:
:bulletred: It needs to be either a work by William Shakespeare or an adaptation based on his work.
:bulletblack: Please include a link or description to clarify if using less recognizable pieces (such as one of the many less performed plays or sonnets).
:bulletred: Use only canon characters from the series.

:bulletgreen: Only entries that adhere to the rules set in the contest prompt will be accepted.

:bulletgreen: After the deadline has passed, the folder will be closed and no new submissions will be accepted.
:bulletpink: As per general contest rules, you are allowed to submit up to three entries. (Admin may only submit one.)

We prefer pieces that are created for the prompt, or around the time of the prompt. It's part of the whole challenge aspect of our contests. So it's a no on pre-existing art. But feel free to submit it to the main gallery.
That's what I thought, but I didn't remember seeing a rule to that effect. Thanks for clarifying that!

Yeah, it's rarely posted in the specific contests, but it's in the general contest rules in the About Us page.

Don`t you think about making Princess Tutu OC contest? Agiotage would be enormous =)
Asatira Jan 7, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
It has crossed my mind personally, but we tend to try to keep things in line with the overall theme of the club, which is focused on the canon characters. We've allowed a few instances for OCs, like the families contest we held a while back. Having an OC focused contest is an option, but something the admins would have to agree on. If there were demand for it, maybe.
Is there going to be a December contest?
Asatira Dec 15, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
No, sorry. We tend to take a break during December, so no contests.
Thank you for granting your permission.

No chance you're going to extend the august contest a couple days?? I have an entry that i've been working on but have been crazy busy!!! I'd probably be done in a day or two!!! PLEASE?!?!? :)))))
Asatira Aug 28, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I'm sorry, but, as you can see, the contest has closed. I'm sorry for not replying to this sooner, but even if I had noticed it sooner, we would not have extended the deadline. As a general policy, we do not extend the deadline unless multiple people request it, and preferably earlier than the day of the deadline. I'm sorry, but those are our rules. But please, finish your entry if you can and submit it to the featured gallery.

Also, it would be best to contact us through the group notes than through the profile because the alerts are better with notes.
