:iconclub-tutu: November 2014 Contest
Steampunk

Prompt:
We've had explored a number of genres over the years, and they show the versatility of Princess Tutu. We've touched on horror, sci-fi, video gaming, superheros, and even other manga and anime series. This month we are once again delving into a genre, this time it is that interesting approach to aesthetic and retro-futuristic, steampunk. We even touched on it a little with our first April Fool's day prompt.

Steampunk is a genre of fiction as well as an aesthetic that draws upon the innovations and explorations of the Victorian era and the works of science fiction visionaries of Jules Vernes and H. G. Wells. It draws upon the cultures of that era but expands on it with hypothetical advanced steam-powered inventions. Draw upon the inspiration of the genre and imagine how the series would play with a little more of that steam-powered technology and fantastic inventions to power it.

Deadline: Nov. 28, 11 p.m. PST

Things to keep in mind:
:bulletred: There must be a clear steampunk aesthetic. Try to push a little further than putting gears on it.
:bulletblack: For more information, start with this Wikipedia entry, check out our Steampunk gallery, and browse the various steampunk inspired groups here on DeviantArt.

Yes. We sometimes take a while to approve, but we usually accept everyone.

I hope to have time to do something for this month's contest. But, I have an older piece that's been posted elsewhere (never on dA) that would fit as well. Would it be permissible to enter it, or (as I've assumed all along) must all entries be new, as part of the challenge to finish them within the allotted time? Just checking....

We prefer pieces that are created for the prompt, or around the time of the prompt. It's part of the whole challenge aspect of our contests. So it's a no on pre-existing art. But feel free to submit it to the main gallery.

That's what I thought, but I didn't remember seeing a rule to that effect. Thanks for clarifying that!

Yeah, it's rarely posted in the specific contests, but it's in the general contest rules in the About Us page.

It has crossed my mind personally, but we tend to try to keep things in line with the overall theme of the club, which is focused on the canon characters. We've allowed a few instances for OCs, like the families contest we held a while back. Having an OC focused contest is an option, but something the admins would have to agree on. If there were demand for it, maybe.

No, sorry. We tend to take a break during December, so no contests.
