Duck was ready to be cheered up, and Irina was better at it than Pique or Lillie. Since returning to the Academy, Duck had worked through the Beginners class. She certainly wasn't ready to displace any of the Advanced students yet, that would take years; but, if she did say so herself, Intermediate should have been within reach. She felt she had passed beyond what the Beginner class could teach her.

He didn't know what he was looking for, yet he was still searching for it. Years he had been doing this, from some vague memory he can't even remember. Was it his mother being at the circus with him? No, not that. Seeing someone there? Maybe. Whatever it was made him wander in the cold dark nights walking slowly searching for something in vain.
He headed to the back of the circus, and his heart plummeted as he realized, tonight was no different from those other nights where he found nothing. He clenched his Clipboard and pencil, the wind ruffled his paper and hair. Go on, a voice in his mind told him. No point giving up now, and with those thoughts he ventured on.
