Happy August, group members!
First, let's congratulate our entrants to July's contest. strawberrycoke98's "Only in New York," :devmusiclovenma:'s "The San Antonio Riverwalk," and Imaginary-Shadow's "Stargazing" will be given spotlights on the front page.
Second, I'm glad to announce our next contest, which is a reprisal of a past contest: In the Style Of II! Just like last time, you are to take a piece of art that you enjoy or are inspired by and recreate it using the cast of Princess Tutu as the models. The rules are the same as last time; so long as it is the work of a well-known or professional artist and the reference can be linked to, it is a viable source, with the exception of anime and manga. To learn more, check out the Countdown widget on the front page. The deadline is Aug. 28.
And last, I would like your input on a possible policy change. Since the beginning of the group, we have done what we can to respect and protect artists' rights and their property and to encourage our members to post their original creations. Back when we first started, we had to be very careful about accepting submissions because we had to re-submit the work and link back to the original artist's submissions. We have always checked to be sure that what is being submitted is coming from the person submitting the piece to the group, which lead to Rule Five in the group rules (If you aren't familiar with the detailed rules of the group, please review the About Us page). This meant if you wanted to share a piece of Princess Tutu fan work, you had to either submit it as a favorite to the group or let the original creator know about the group and hope he/she joined.
Thankfully, groups has allowed much better control, and, most importantly, allow the original creator of the piece to have final approval of the submission, even if he or she is not a member of a group. This final approval step does away with part of the need for Rule Five; a club member could submit a non-club member's artwork, and if approved by the admins, the non-club member has the final say on the request to add his/her work to the club's gallery. I am asking for your thoughts on removing the ban of submitting others' existing deviations to the group. Should we do this?
Keep in mind that the other parts of the rule, namely the pieces must be the creator's original work still applies. We do not like art thieves or people posting direct use or tracings of official artwork from Princess Tutu and other properties, nor do we accept scans from doujinshi work from others. We will still check and approve the pieces to the same standards and rules as club members' submissions.
Please give me your thoughts on changing this policy. And good luck to those entering this month's contest!

I think the creator-approval cinches the deal, because the original creator/owner will definitely be aware of/have to approve of their works' appearance in the gallery. So yes, I think it would be good to be able to submit directly to the gallery, even if it's not your own work.
